From the moment Lightroom began offering image sync capabilities between desktop computers and mobile devices, Adobe has carefully hidden its Sync controls under an Identity Plate in the top left corner. If you were unaware they existed on their own, finding them could take quite some time – thankfully now with Lightroom Classic it is right in front and available to all! With image syncing allowing us to enjoy images across devices is now much simpler!
Now in the top right corner, there’s a cloud icon (circled above in red) which you can click to access sync controls.
One thing I wanted to highlight as being particularly useful was Adobe’s publishing of a “Sync FAQs” page, with links embedded directly within their sync controls panel (above to the right of the little “i” icon for more info).
Adobe did an outstanding job of answering frequently-asked questions and outlining exactly which files will and won’t sync, including which size files cannot be synced regardless of file type (it’s 200MB!).
NOTE: Once you enable syncing on your mobile device, only Collections you select will be synced across to Lightroom on that device (it does not sync Folders), eliminating the worry about taking up too much free space on your phone or tablet by turning syncing on. Furthermore, instead of sending high-resolution JPEG, TIFF or RAW files for upload, Smart Previews are sent instead – for more on all this syncing stuff click this link.
Adobe deserves credit for making sync controls more “discoverable”. We hope you have an amazing week and look forward to seeing you here again tomorrow. Stay healthy, stay sane, and we will see you back here tomorrow.
