Lightroom Mobile Week – Day 2: Enhance Your Retouching with Just One Tap

Lightroom Mobile’s retouching capabilities are limited. But, with the latest update, Adobe has released a new free app called Photoshop Fix. It includes a direct link that allows you to move your image directly from Lightroom Mobile to Photoshop Fix to do any retouching.

Download the Photoshop Fix free app from the App Store (it is only available for IOS at this time, but Adobe has promised an Android version “coming soon”). Then, in lightroom mobile, select the Share button and tap “Edit In”. A pop-up window will appear. You can choose either option (I selected “Healing with Photoshop Fix”), and the image will be copied and opened in the Photoshop Fix application almost immediately.

How good is Photoshop fix? It’s freakin’ astounding! It’s almost too good. The healing brush, the clone tool and other tools for retouching (including some that adjust facial features) just aren’t good enough. It has some features that should be available in the “real” desktop Photoshop, but they are not. They’re only in this Adobe app. It’s still a mystery to me, but let’s just make the best of it.

Photoshop Fix is a great tool for removing blemishes and wrinkles. You can paint these areas with your finger and get results that are very similar to Photoshop. It’s as if it was designed to work with Lightroom Mobile. It’s completely free so why not give it a try?

Above After you finish editing in Photoshop Fix, simply tap the blue bar at the top of your screen. It will save the changes and send the image to Lightroom Mobile. Lightroom Desktop will send you an edited JPEG image at a smaller resolution based on the Smart Thumbnail that was sent to you. The original Raw file for an image that I edited was 5,760 pixels long, while the Fix-edited JPEG version was only 2,048. It’s still a good resolution, but it is less than half as large as a raw image of the same size. Just to let you know.

These two are a powerful team when it comes to mobile editing. They can do more than what Lightroom desktop alone is capable of, which is quite a feat.

I hope you will give Photoshop Fix a try. It’s more powerful and better than you think. It’s way better than you think, and more powerful than you realize.
