Adobe’s latest updates have improved the ability to make AI-based choices. Check out the previous articles to get up to speed with how to use these upgraded Masking tools. This post will also cover how we can incorporate AI-based technology into presets.
Exploring the Adaptive Presets
In the Develop module, you may have noticed that there are new Presets in your Presets panel that begin with the word Adaptive. Now there are three Adaptive Groups, one each for Portrait, Sky and Subject. Adobe created these presets to show you what’s possible in a preset. These presets will help us understand their functionality, and then I’ll demonstrate how to make your own.
Expand the Adaptive Subject group to see what else is included. Names like Pop, Warm Pop and Soft should be visible. All the Adaptive preset groups have one thing in common: they use AI-based Masking tools that automatically detect a subject, sky or person. Then, the settings are applied to the mask. Select an unedited picture that clearly shows a subject. (I am always curious if AI will think the subject is what I expected.) Then, move your cursor slowly over each preset (it may take a few seconds to create a mask based on a photo’s subject). You should then see how the subject changes based on settings.
