As I’m sure it comes as no surprise to many of you, here is one tip you likely don’t already know: If the “Photo is Missing” message ever pops up again in Lightroom Classic, this time-saving and frustration-saving tip may save both time and frustration (OK, maybe I exaggerated here but trust me it has saved me hours!) Here is what it entails:
OK, this tip isn’t the main event; but if you notice an exclamation point warning in the right corner of a thumbnail image, that indicates it can’t find the image. When taken to the Develop Module, this warning grows into a large “Photo is Missing” message. By clicking directly on that exclamation point warning it brings up information such as its name (SK1_0298-HDR.jpg in this instance) and last location seen (it could still be somewhere), as well as “Locate” button which will search your drive or external hard drive until found; don’t do that yet; take your time!
Here’s a tip: That little dialogue box that shows where it last saw your original image file can be clicked to highlight, with Ctrl-C (on Macs) or Command-C (PCs) then used to copy its name into memory – saving yourself from having to memorize lengthy filenames!
Subtracting that copied name to the Search field (located in the upper-right corner on Macs), and you should find your image instantly (see image above). Note, though, if searching from within OS X you need to make sure ‘Search:” and choose ‘This Mac’ or it will just search where you were last located instead of your entire computer or external drive – making this super handy stuff!
Tomorrow will mark the launch of the FREE “Depth of Field” Two-Day Portrait Conference and I am teaching two Lightroom classes as part of this event!
Many will be watching online, while some will attend in person at the New Yorker Hotel in New York City; regardless, B&H Photo is hosting this entire event for free, and it isn’t too late for you to join – simply RSVP at this link and tell them you plan on coming.
I’ll be teaching three classes with some amazing instructors such as Joe McNally, Kristina Sherk, Peter Hurley and many more – see class schedule here – so please come by my classes today in New York if possible – can’t wait!!!
